Book Review: The Mysterious and Amazing Blue Billings by Lily Morton

Last updated on March 22, 2020

I recently read an amazing ghost story. I don’t read many ghost stories, but I don’t remember reading a better one. Here it is:

Author blurb:

Blue Billings is edgy, beautiful, and lost. Utterly lost. He conceals so many secrets that some days it’s a miracle he remembers his own name. He knows that he should ignore Levi because he threatens the tenuous grip Blue has on survival. But there’s something about the kind-eyed man that draws Blue to him. Something that demands he stay and fight for him when he would normally run in the opposite direction.

As the two men investigate the shocking truth behind Levi’s house, they also discover a deep connection that defies the short length of time they’ve known each other. But when events escalate and his life is on the line, Levi has to wonder if it was wise to trust the Mysterious and Amazing Blue Billings.

I made the mistake of reading it in bed in bed with the lights off. I don’t recommend it, unless you enjoy being spooked.

It’s extremely well-written. Lily Morton is one of very few authors who writes in a first person, present tense point of view that I can read without being so distracted by the POV that I give up after a few pages.

The story itself is fabulous. On the one hand, you’ve got the creepy ghost story in the historic York house. On the other, you’ve got a lovely romance with realistic, three dimensional, interesting characters.

The ghost story is woven in amongst the romance. So one second you’re creeped out, then you’re laughing, then you’re trying not to cry. Well, mostly not that last one, though I did cry once.

Anyway, it’s a fabulous book. If you enjoy ghost stories with your romance, I encourage you to check it out. It is on Kindle Unlimited, and is available for purchase in ebook and paperback.

If you don’t want a ghost story, but are in the mood for a rom-com, you may want to check out Lily Morton’s other books. Oz is the first one I read, and it got me totally hooked on this author.
